What book is Good Omens based on?

Good Omens is based on the renowned Neil Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett fantasy novel of the same name.

The beloved fantasy was written by both Gaiman and Pratchett in 1989.

Gaiman is an acclaimed English author whose most well-known works include the comic book series The Sandman and novels Stardust, American Gods and Coraline.

Terry Pratchett was the legendary mind behind such fantasy novels like the Discworld series and best-selling author in the UK in the 1990s.

The plot of Good Omens follows the birth of the son of Satan, the coming of the End Times.

In 2003, the novel was listed at number 68 on the BBC’s survey The Big Read.

Gaiman himself serves as showrunner on the upcoming series.

Speaking to reporters including Express.co.uk, Gaiman said he had to reinvent the story for television whilst trying to stay faithful to the millions of fans around the world who have read the book.

“But I also wanted surprises and excitement,” he added.

What is Good Omens about?

The synopsis for Good Omens reads: “The End of the World is coming, which means a fussy Angel (played by Michael Sheen) and a loose-living Demon (David Tennant) who’ve become overly fond of life on Earth are forced to form an unlikely alliance to stop Armageddon.

“But they have lost the Antichrist, an 11-year-old boy unaware he’s meant to bring upon the end of days, forcing them to embark on an adventure to find him and save the world before it’s too late.”
