Captain Marvel: Huge TWIST in store as Annette Bening teases shock reveal 'There's more!'

Bening plays Supreme Intelligence in the Brie Larson-fronted Marvel film, which is due out in just a few weeks’ time. But speaking about her role to Stephen Colbert on his US chatshow last night, she implied that there’s much more than meets the eye. Amid previous speculation that she could be a villain or even Carol Danvers’ mother, could either be true? Or will it be something else entirely?

She said: “I play the Supreme Intelligence, who is a God-like entity. The leader of the Kree people.

“The artificial intelligence which consists of the greatest intellects of the Kree people for the last million years.”

And with a wry smile, she added: “And there’s more. But I can’t say it.”

Colbert grinned: “And I know it, that’s what I can’t say!”

Whatever twists are in store, Bening said she needed help to grasp them.

“When I read the script, I did find it slightly confusing,” she recalled.

“However, I took into my confidence – and the confidence of the entire Disney corporation – two of my kids, who I then told the story to, and asked them to please explain to me what the hell was going on!

“But there’s a reason for that, and when the movie comes out it will become clear why it was somewhat confusing.”
