Anthony Davis trade: Lakers handed ‘DRAMATIC’ update, Knicks and Celtics major claim

That’s according to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps, who believes the Lakers may have missed their chance on trading for Davis.

After Davis handed in a trade request shortly before the deadline, the Lakers were aggressive in their talks to strike a deal.

After low-balling the Pelicans with a small package, Magic Johnson and Rob Plink returned with a huge offer which included the majority of their young core and a number of draft picks.

Still, that wasn’t enough for New Orleans to accept a trade and they have instead opted to wait until the summer where more teams can enter the bidding war.

The Celtics have been long-term admirers of Davis and are likely to put together an attractive offer to the Pelicans.

But even though the Knicks traded away Kristaps Porzingis, Bontemps suggests New York could end up stealing Davis away from both the Celtics and Lakers.

“When New Orleans didn’t trade Davis this month, the window for the Lakers to get him decreased dramatically,” Bontemps wrote.

“Now Boston can offer a far more appealing package than Los Angeles is capable of putting together.

“And if the Celtics get him, Boston can offer him a chance to win — which he says is his main priority — on a team alongside Irving well into the next decade.

“The one team that could possibly outbid the Celtics is the Knicks — but only if they manage to win the top pick in the lottery, and with it the chance to draft Duke superstar Zion Williamson.”

The Knicks currently have the second worst record in the NBA, but they could be set for a franchise-altering summer.

They will be hoping to land the top pick in the draft so that they can pick up Williamson.

But they also have their eyes set on free agency after creating enough space for two max salary slots.

Both Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant have been heavily linked with joining the Knicks and those rumours intensified over the All Star break.

The two All Stars were spotted in an animated conversation in the hallway of the Spectrum Center.

And eagle-eyed fans also spotted that Irving was the only player to remain on the court to show his support to Durant when he was presented with his All Star Game MVP award.
