Zion Williamson: LeBron James leads NBA twitter reaction to bizarre injury

Williamson was forced off injured after less than a minute in Duke’s highly-anticipated contest with rivals North Carolina.

It came after he went to turn and his left shoe split, forcing his foot out of the trainer.

Fans had paid as much as $2,000 to be at the Blue Devils’ Cameron Indoor Stadium with former US president Barack Obama courtside.

Obama tweeted to wish Williamson well, posting: “Zion Williamson seems like an outstanding young man as well as an outstanding basketball player. Wishing him a speedy recovery.”

NBA stars, including LeBron James, also posted their well wishes.

James tweeted: “Hope young fella is ok! Literally blew thru his (shoe emoji)”

Carlos Boozer added: “Get Well Soon”

While Boston Celtics guard Terry Rozier suggested Williamson: “Come on over to Puma” before adding: “Didn’t know he was hurt [praying emoji].”

And Brooklyn Nets veteran Jared Dudley added: “Never seen anything like it.”

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski gave an update on Williamson’s injury as he said: “It’s a mild knee sprain, the knee is stable.

“We don’t know how long he will be out. I think we will find out more about that.”

Nike, who manufactured Williamson’s Paul George 2.5 shoe, hope the college player can bounce back.

A statement from the sportswear giant read: “We are obviously concerned and want to wish Zion a speedy recovery.

“The quality and performance of our products are of utmost importance.

“While this is an isolated occurrence, we are working to identify the issue.”

Warriors star Steph Curry had previously praised Williamson.

He recently said: “He’s unreal. We were talking about him the other day in our team room.

“He has a lot of hype around him and he’s unbelievably talented, but you can’t teach his passion and the way that he plays.

“He plays hard every possession, and that’s an underrated skill that kids can kind of emulate.”
