Rocketman TRAILER: Taron Egerton SINGS as Elton John – with Richard Madden as his co-star

Following the huge success of Bohemian Rhapsody, could this be the next big music drama? It certainly seems that way – especially as director Dexter Fletcher is the man who helped finish the Queen biopic once Bryan Singer had been fired. Rocketman is poised to be a big hit when it hits cinemas this spring. Watch the new trailer above.

The synopsis reads: “Based on a true fantasy, ROCKETMAN is an epic musical fantasy about the incredible human story of Elton John’s breakthrough years.

“The film follows the fantastical journey of transformation from shy piano prodigy Reginald Dwight into international superstar Elton John.

“This inspirational story – set to Elton John’s most beloved songs and performed by star Taron Egerton – tells the universally relatable story of how a small-town boy became one of the most iconic figures in pop culture.

“Rocketman also stars Jamie Bell as Elton’s longtime lyricist and writing partner Bernie Taupin, Richard Madden as Elton’s first manager, John Reid, and Bryce Dallas Howard as Elton’s mother Sheila Farebrother.”

Speaking to W, Egerton said of the iconic role he has taken on: “The thing about playing someone who is so beloved — all we can do is give our heartfelt interpretation of his life and his music.”

Music producer Giles Martin added: “Elton said, ‘I don’t think I’ve heard anyone sing my songs better than Taron.’

”The great thing about Elton is that he wants Taron’s interpretations of his songs.”

Egerton has also previously indicated that the film is not to be seen as a biopic.

“Everyone thinks it’s a biopic. It isn’t,” he insisted last year.

“It’s a fantasy musical, so it’s actually his songs used to express important beats in his life at emotional moments.”

Fans of vintage pop and rock also have Yesterday to look forward to: a fictional fantasy about the music of the Beatles.

Rocketman is out on May 31.
