Instant Family stars Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne as Pete and Ellie Wagner. As they consider the option of adopting a child, they decide to enrol in a foster parents course. What ensues is an earnest and heartwarming dramedy about family, love, and making it work.

The exclusive clip from the movie features Wahlberg and Byrne doing their best to be accommodating of their new teenage daughter.

When confronted by a blank-slate of a bedroom, Izzy, played by Isabela Moner, decides she wants to paint it black.

The official plot synopsis reads: “When Pete and Ellie choose to start a family, they stumble headfirst into the world of foster care adoption.

“After they learn their perfect foster child comes with two other siblings, Pete and Ellie find themselves speeding from zero to three kids overnight.

Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures) and Tig Notaro (Nanette) play Karen and Sharon respectively, the social workers who guide the parents-to-be through the foster care process.

Rotten Tomatoes gives the movie a certified fresh score of 81 per cent.

The critics’ consensus reads: “Instant Family may not quite capture the complexity of real-life adoption, but fittingly for the unconditional bond it honours, this flawed yet well-intentioned dramedy is ultimately worth the investment.”

Instant Family’s story is based on the real life of its director, Sean Anders.

Anders co-wrote the screenplay with John Morris, the writer behind movies like Daddy’s Home, We’re the Millers, and Hot Tub Time Machine.
