Carol Kirkwood: 'I ran a mile' BBC Breakfast star reveals terrifying encounter with ghost

Carol Kirkwood has told of a story involving a “grey lady” who lurked in the shadows at an eerie sanctuary at Glamis Castle. She was filming near Forfar in Scotland, the setting for Shakespeare’s Macbeth when she saw the frightening apparition. It was believed to have been the face of the Grey Lady, the spirit of Lady Janet Douglas, who was burnt at the stake as a witch in Edinburgh in 1537. The wraith came to her as she surveyed a picture in the chapel of Christ in 2015.

“I was looking at a picture in the chapel of Christ and before my eyes it changed to a picture of a grey lady,” she told Express.co.uk

“I was told later the grey lady haunts that chapel.”

She continued: “She used to live there with her husband and that’s where she was happiest. I ran a mile.”

Carol, who presents the weather forecast for BBC Breakfast, has travelled across the country for work.

The 56-year-old recently reported from atop The London Coliseum, where she was caught off guard by host Naga Munchetty.

Speaking to Carol via video chat, Naga remarked: “Really looking forward to seeing you in 20 minutes. I understand you are going to sing to us?

Red-faced and nervously laughing the meteorologist replied: “I don’t actually remember agreeing to this actually, Naga.”

Trying to convince the broadcaster, a cheeky Naga interjected: “I thought you had. We’ll see what happens in 20 mins. Thanks Carol.”

Later in the show, Naga returned to Carol, who was standing at the edge of the London theatre’s roof.

“Well Carol has been high up in that tower all morning like Rapunzel,” the presenter said. “We can see her, just, but can we hear her?”

As the camera zoomed in on Carol, she burst into song, spreading her arms as she sang Lionel Richie’s hit Hello.

At the end of her performance a shy Carol quipped: “Enough! I can’t sing! I never said I could sing! That was horrendous!”

However, many viewers at home were impressed with her singing and commented on her performance online.

On Twitter, one admirer wrote: “Why did you stop singing? I was enjoying that. You’re pretty good, at least you can hold a tune.”

Another added: “Aww that was fabulous @carolkirkwood! [You] made my morning; nothing horrendous about that performance, whatsoever.”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One at 6am.
