Galaxy X has been rumoured since Samsung first showed a teaser for a foldable device back in 2014.
The handset has been pitched by the South Korean tech giant as a hybrid between a traditional smartphone and a tablet in terms of functionality.
The Galaxy X was displayed at Samsung’s Developer Conference back in November and gave Android fans a tantalising glimpse at the product.
Samsung’s foldable phone looks set to deliver a 7.3-inch OLED display when it has been expanded and a smaller 4.6-inch panel when it is closed.
The larger form factor will surely be utilised by fans when they are watching content that better suits it such as video.
Moreover, it is expected when unfolded the handset will be able to run multiple applications at the same time.
While the name of the foldable device has been unclear, it appears last night its title was unveiled courtesy of leaker Evan Blass on Twitter.
The tipster suggested the phone will be called the Samsung Galaxy Fold.
The South Korean OEM has heavily suggested the Galaxy Fold will debut at its Unpacked event that is taking place at 7pm UK time today.
While the firm’s Galaxy S10 handset is anticipated to dominate proceedings, Samsung has promoted the exhibition with the slogan “the future of mobile will unfold”.
Such a phrase hints the firm’s foldable smartphone will make an appearance.
Pricing for Samsung’s futuristic flagship is currently unknown.
However, with the Galaxy S10 rumoured to fetch prices exceeding the £1,000 barrier, it is expected the foldable handset could cost a significant amount more.
The Galaxy Fold is certainly not the only foldable phone Android fans have to look forward to.
Xiaomi and Huawei have made no secret of the fact they are both working on such devices.
In fact, the former recently showed off a video of the hardware being used by its president, Lin Bin.
Meanwhile, Huawei has heavily suggested its own foldable flagship will be shown at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona next week.
Samsung’s Unpacked event will be taking place in San Francisco at 7pm UK time (11am local time).
In addition to showing off the Galaxy Fold, it is also expected the South Korean OEM will display its Galaxy S10 flagship, new wearables and possibly a pair of headphones.
