This Is Us is an American comedy-drama series starring Sterling K Brown, Chrissy Metz and Justin Hartley. There are 18 episodes in the third series overall and This is Us season three, episode 13 will air tonight (Tuesday, February 19 on NBC). John Huertas plays Miguel, the husband of Rebecca (played by Mandy Moore) and fans are desperate to know more about his backstory.
Will Miguel get his own backstory episode?
It looks very unlikely Miguel will get his own backstory episode in this series of This is Us.
However, it is still possible he will get his own backstory if a fourth season is given the green light.
Speaking to TVLine earlier this month, This is Us co-showrunner Isaac Aptaker said Miguel’s story will take place over a series of episodes instead of one.
He said: “His is one that we’re going to spread [out]. It’s not going to be all condensed into one episode.”
Aptaker added: “We’re peeling back the layers of Miguel and his relationship with his family over the next few years, in bits and pieces.
“We’ll continue to do that and see how those relationships have evolved over the years.”
HOW WILL SERIES 3 END?
For example, in the Thanksgiving special, viewers met Miguel’s children from his previous marriage to Shelly for the first time.
One of Miguel’s takes a disliking to his new wife Rebecca and accused her of trying to kill the family by putting nuts in the dish.
For the first time ever, Miguel touched on how he lost contact with kids, shouting: “I was lucky if I got an email back from you.”
He then told his children: “Take all the shots at me that you want to… but the one time a decade that you see Rebecca, you show my wife some respect.”
Fans were first introduced to Miguel as Jack’s best friend in season one.
WHERE IS THIS IS US FILMED?
However, by seasons two and three, Miguel and Rebecca, Jack’s (Milo Ventimiglia) wife had gotten together and married.
Speaking to Countryliving.com, Huertas spoke about his character in season three.
He said: “We’re going to see how this relationship changed from one of really good friends to something a little stronger, a little deeper.
“I’m excited to show the audience that this season and see how they react. I hope they react in a positive way.”
Before the end of the third season, viewers are hoping to find out how Rebecca and Miguel actually met and why they lost touch in the first place.
Hearts added: “The Facebook reach-out that Miguel did was I think eight to 10 years after Jack’s death so it was a pretty decent amount of time, and Rebecca’s been on her own because all of the kids have gone out and did their thing.“
“Kevin went to become an actor, Kate went off to be his assistant and pursue her singing career, and Randall became a really successful businessman in New York, so Rebecca was kind of left on her own.
“Imagine being lonely and someone from the past who you really had a connection with [reaches out]”
“I think both [Miguel and Rebecca] are in a place when you don’t have anybody and they’re older.“
WHO IS TESS IN THIS IS US?
Previously, Jon Huertas had said Miguel would get his own special episode.
Huertas told TVLine at Comic-Con in 2018 fans would have to wait.
He said: “I know they’re going to do that [special episode]. You can’t push Miguel down people’s throats right now, because Jack and Rebecca, it’s everyone’s dream to be in a relationship like that where both people are so dedicated to each other, no matter what.
“You have to go really slow and really watch your step. I feel like you’re walking through a minefield.”
Fans will just have to wait a little longer to find out more about Miguel.
