Man Utd fans sent brilliant message by Michael Carrick ahead of Liverpool clash

Manchester United beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup last night to set up a quarter-final clash at Wolves.

Goals from Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba earned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a sixth successive away win, during which the United supporters sang “you’re getting sacked in the morning” at Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri.

United now face Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday and they have been given a rousing message by Carrick ahead of the match.

The former midfielder said: “To everyone single one of you behind the goal last night. Nonstop from start to finish. The noise and energy was incredible. Would have loved to be in there myself. Thank you. Same again Sunday please.”

Fourth-placed United shift their focus back to the league and the race for the top four when they host title contenders Liverpool, with both Arsenal and Chelsea a point below them in the standings.

Caretaker boss Solskjaer warned after the win over the Blues: “We play Liverpool next week, but Chelsea, Arsenal and us will fight for that fourth position three good teams fighting for that one position. But this was about getting through to the next round.”

Paul Pogba starred at Stamford Bridge – making Ander Herrera’s opening goal and heading United’s second from Marcus Rashford’s cross.

And he revealed after the match he is driven by the feeling of defeat and the absence of domestic silverware last season.

“All the competitions are important. We want to win something,” said Pogba, who now has 14 goals this season.

“Last year we didn’t win any trophies. I still remember that. This year we want to win something.

“We knew how to hurt them, (by) running behind their midfielders. Two runs in the box, two goals.

“My job as a midfielder is not to score goals, it’s more to make assists. But when I get a chance to score goals it’s a great feeling.”

Pogba felt United, who next play Liverpool on Sunday, had more to give.

“The result was great, but we should do better. We should react even better,” he added.

“We made it harder for ourselves. We can control more, play more and hurt them more with the ball.”
