Netflix released The Umbrella Academy on February 15 with all 10 episodes of the superhero series available to binge watch in one go. The Umbrella Academy has been written by musician Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance fame and tells an unconventional tale of a family of superheroes. The series follows a group of superheroes who were inexplicably born on the same day and gifted with different powers who have to save the world.

Seven of the children were taken in by the mysterious Sir Reginald Hargreeves (played by Colm Feore) as part of his school named The Umbrella Academy.
During their time in The Umbrella Academy, the children were educated and became a superhero team under the tutelage of Sir Reginald.
Vanya Hargreeves (Ellen Page) – also known as Number 7 and The White Violin – was kept apart from the other children by the eccentric billionaire after she didn’t seem to display any superhuman abilities.
However, as the series went on it emerged Vanya was perhaps the most powerful one out of her superhero siblings and could bring about the apocalypse.
Sir Reginald had been suppressing Vanya’s powers through medication for most of her life and consequently, she felt like a misfit.

What are Number 7’s powers?
Vanya was outraged when she found out that she had superpowers surpassing those of her brother and sisters, leading her to trigger the apocalypse.
The superhero always thought her gifts were her musical ability on the violin hence her alter-ego name.
Number 7 actually has the power to create destructive waves of force by playing the violin, which can fling people through the air and impale them on objects.
She can also destroy buildings through the force of her violin playing. Vanya also triggers the end of the world after she seeks revenge on those who have hidden the truth about her powers from her.
THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY CAST
Some of the other powers among the members of The Umbrella Academy include Luther Hargreeves (Tom Hopper) – also known as Number 1 and Spaceboy – who has superhuman strength.
There is also Allison Hargreeves (Emmy Raver-Lampman) or Number 3 or The Rumor who can alter reality.
Another key member is Klaus Hargreeves (Robert Sheehan) – better known as Number 4 and The Séance – who has telekinesis, the ability to contact the dead and levitate.
Speaking about playing Vanya, Hollywood actress Page said her character had an “interesting” story arc through the course of the series.
She explained to USA Today: “When you’re folding in on yourself and you’re numb to the world and you don’t know how to relate to it, it’s needless to say hard to blossom in any way at all, whether it’s personal life, professional life, what have you.

“Obviously this is Vanya going on an awakening of some sort.”
Page revealed she had a violin double to stand in for her in the scenes where Vanya was performing but had taken lessons for the role.
She remarked it was “really hard”, going on to say: “Really, the goal was to just try and make me look as comfortable as humanly possible.”
The Juno and Inception star went on to admit: “For me on a personal level, I have to say this is one of my favorite [sic] characters I’ve ever gotten to play.”
