It has also been called the bone or hunger moon due to the lack of food available in the winter.

In January, we were treated to the Super Blood Wolf Moon, and this month the Super Snow Moon should also be a beautiful spectacle.

Senior teaching fellow at University College London’s (UCL) physics and astronomy department Dr Francisco Diego explains the moon will reach its brightest point at 3.53pm UK time on February 19.

In London, the best vantage points for experiencing this wonder will be on hills such as Parliament Hill in Hampstead Heath, Primrose Hill and Alexandra Palace.

Dr Diego added: “The best places to see it are the top of hills that have clear views to the east and the west.”

If the sky is clear, stargazers will have a better chance of seeing the supermoon as cloud hampers the view.

Dr Diego said: ”I hope we manage to see something,

“If it’s clear I will be there somewhere with a camera or a pair of binoculars to look at it.”
