Presidents’ Day 2019 greetings and messages: How to celebrate Presidents’ Day TODAY

Workers will enjoy an extra day off as Presidents’ Day is being celebrated on Monday, February 18. The day was established by Congress in 1885 to honour first US President George Washington. He was born in Virginia on February 22, 1732.

The day used to be celebrated on February 22 every year, but this changed in 1968 when Congress introduced the Uniform Monday Holiday Act.

Presidents’ Day then started being celebrated on the third Monday of every February.

Instead of just focusing on Mr Washington, the day now celebrates all the US leaders from history.

Communities gather to watch parades and overindulge in feasts, as most government institutes will be closed today.

People also greet each other with “Happy Presidents Day!” or spread messages to each other about why this day is so significant.

The United States Postal Service will not deliver mail on this holiday.

But the United Parcel Service (UPS) will continue to provide mail services on this day.

Similarly, FedEx Express and FedEx SmartPost may have reduced deliveries.

However, FedEx home delivery should not change for this public day.

Meanwhile, most banks, including the Federal Reserve Banks, will be closed all through the day.

The Department of Motor Vehicles will also be shut across the Us, along with the US courts.

The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will not be open.

Bin collections may not arrive at their usual time, so make sure to check before leaving your rubbish out.

Most public schools will close for the big day, so students will be treated to a day off too.

However, due to the recent snowy weather, some school may still hold lessons.
