New Orleans shooting: Four SHOT in horror attack – HUGE police response, area on LOCKDOWN

According to local emergency services, they were shot at around 6.45pm (12.45am GMT) local time on the intersection of Canal Street and Elk Place. All four victims were taken to University Medical Centre and were in a critical condition. A fifth was also taken to hospital for minor abrasions.

The suspect involved in the shooting is dead following an exchange with New Orleans Police according to the police department spokesman, Andy Cunningham, as reported by a local news agency.

The New Orleans Police Department also confirmed that no officers were shot in the exchange.

An officer was injured in a car crash however while travelling to the scene of the crime.

New Orleans Emergency Medical Services spokesman Lt. Jonathan Fourcade confirmed that one of the victims was 17-years-old.

As of now, the condition of the four victims is unknown and the police currently have the immediate area in lockdown.

Mr Cunningham also revealed that the incident occurred after an armed robber opened fire at police responding to the call.

Officials have not released the suspect’s name as of yet.

Hours earlier there had been another shooting in the city.

Police confirmed that the shooting had taken place in Central City just around 2:00pm (8:00pm GMT).

One person had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The other victim was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.

The second victim is listed as being in a stable condition.

As of yet no other information is available.

The chief of Police, Shaun Ferguson, and mayor LaToya Cantrell will be holding a briefing within the next hour with updates.
