Celtic fans invade pitch and are held back by POLICE at Kilmarnock – shock PICS

Celtic were on course to draw this crunch game in the Scottish Premiership until Brown popped up with the winner in the 89th minute.

The Hoops captain fired in from a corner, with the ball deflecting off a Kilmarnock arm before nestling into the back of the net.

Brown celebrated wildly with the fans behind the goal as Celtic went eight points clear of Rangers in the title race.

But the club captain sparked controversy as Celtic fans spilled over the barriers to celebrate with the players.

As these images show, a number of Hoops fans got past security to hug the celebrating Hoops players.

Some even jumped over the advertising hoardings and got onto the pitch.

Police eventually pushed them back into their seats.

And once things had settled down Brown himself was sent off for sparking the celebrations.

Celtic star Brown had already been booked earlier in the game for a dangerous challenge on Greg Taylor.

And he received his second yellow card for leaping into the fans.

The Scot was also involved in another controversial incident in Ayrshire.

Brown was fouled by Kirk Broadfoot midway through the second half, which saw the Killie man handed a straight red card.

Brown got to a loose ball first, with Broadfoot scraping his boot down the experienced midfielder’s shin.

After the match Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers said: “We weren’t settling for a draw.

“We play to win every game and I thought we played very well considering we had a game of such intensity and difficulty on Thursday.

“It is never easy here, you have got to break through their block and they are very well organised.

“You know there are not going to be many chances so you have got to be ready.

“In the second half the players had great control and limited Kilmarnock to nothing really.

“When the moment arrived we took it, so I thought we were well deserving of the win.”

Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke said: “We asked for a consistent level of performance, and I thought we were good today. I thought there were two good teams on pitch.

“We didn’t deserve the bad break at the end. We’re a little unfortunate. It’s frustrating to play so well and not get anything from the game.”

Asked about Kirk Broadfoot’s red card, he added: “I’ve only seen the wide-angle lens, and it’s hard to tell. But it didn’t look too good from the sidelines.

“Even after going down to 10 men we looked reasonably comfortable. I couldn’t see Celtic scoring to be honest.”
