Brian McFadden: Dancing On Ice star speaks out on daunting challenge and 'stumbles'

The 38-year-old Westlife star and his 29-year-old skating partner Alex Murphy will be performing to You Never Can Tell tonight. Sharing a clip of their progress in training on Instagram earlier this week, Dancing On Ice star Brian McFadden looked to be mastering the choreography as he admitted he was facing a formidable task. “This week is gonna be awesome,” he enthused. “Me and @almurph18 working lil socks to recreate the greatest dance scene in movie history only on skates!

“No stumbles this week. I’m ready!” he told his 183,000 followers.

Gemma Collins, 38, chipped in with her support for Brian, commenting: “You got my vote.”

“Looking fab! Go Brian,” eliminated contestant Saira Khan, 48, added.

More of the Dancing On Ice family also showed their support, with James Jordan’s wife Ola Jordan, 36, and Jane Danson’s husband Robert Beck, 50, both liking the post.

Meanwhile, fans also took to the comments section to wish Brian well for tonight’s skate, with one saying: “Way to go Brian.”

“Love it, you will smash it,” a second gushed, while a third added: “Rooting for you Brian and your ice partner.”

Last weekend, Gemma was sent home after landing in the skate off with Ryan Sidebottom, 41.

Brian finished in the middle of the leaderboard, scoring a respectable 24.5 points for his dramatic routine to the soundtrack of Imagine Dragons’ Believer.

Having recently recovered from a back injury, he suffered a big stumble near the beginning of the routine and also went on to drop Alex as she exited a lift.

The judges had plenty of constructive criticism for the popstar, with Jayne Torville, 61, saying: “What I will say is that your basics this week are a lot stronger and more solid.”

“You should be upset with yourself but proud of yourself at the same time,” Christopher Dean, 60, said. “That was stronger than I saw it in the rehearsal.”

Jason Gardiner, 47, said he loved the commitment to the character at the beginning of the routine, but noted how it had disappeared as the skate progressed.

“Choreographically you are really working more of your lines,” he told Brian. “Well done, movement in the right direction.”

“It’s horrible seeing you this deflated,” Ashley Banjo, 30, added. “I can see that you’ve physically been a bit defeated this week.

“So, I applaud you for getting out on the ice and doing it.”

Brian and Alex will be hoping for a routine free from mistakes tonight as they aim to make it through to the next week of the competition.

Dancing On Ice continues tonight at 6pm on ITV.
