Tom Jones relationships REVEALED: Shirley Bassey and Ella Fitzgerald – His female friends

Tom Jones is currently busy being a judge on The Voice UK. But with the ‘Sex Bomb’ star back in the spotlight, the Welsh womaniser’s past seems to have caught up with him. Although Sir Tom remained devoted to his wife Linda for almost 60 years until her death in 2016, the veteran singer was also known for his numerous affairs with other women.

However, the ‘It’s not unusual’ singer also had a flurry of female friends, including Shirley Bassey and Ella Fitzgerald.

More than eight million people regularly tune in to watch The Voice, where Tom appears as a judge every Saturday.

And the 78-year-old has been mocked on many occasions for his notorious name-dropping.

Sir Tom’s long career has seen him make friends with multiple A-list celebrities including his fellow Welshman, Shirley Bassey.

Sir Tom was also great friends with Ella Fitzgerald before she died in June 1996, aged 79.

The Welsh singer was reportedly always proud he got to sing with the “great Ella Fitzgerald”.

He told Clash Music: “I though, ‘Well, I can’t compete with Ella Fitzgerald, because she’s a scat singer.’

“And I knew she was going to do that with ‘Sunny’.

“I knew she would play with it – she’d jazz it up. And I’m not a jazz singer, so I couldn’t go there.

“If it was more if a gospel song, and it was with Mahalia Jackson, that would have been a different thing.

“But I’m sitting with Ella Fitzgerland, who was one of the greatest jazz singers ever.

“So I knew I couldn’t compete. I tried to get a little loose on it and jazz it up a little bit, but that’s not my forte, so I thought I’d just stick to my guns – I’ll just do what I do – and she appreciated that.

“I thought I’d let her fly on it, and she did.”
