Man Utd news: What Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told Romelu Lukaku behind the scenes

Manchester United star Lukaku has fallen down the Old Trafford pecking order ever since Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho as manager back in December.

The Belgium international was previously a Mourinho ‘untouchable’ after signing from Premier League rivals Everton for £75million in the summer of 2017.

However, the Manchester United star is now below Marcus Rashford in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s pecking order and, as a result, talk of a move away to Italy has arisen.

Lukaku has hinted in the past that he would be open to moving to Serie A, and Juventus in particular, saying: “Why not? I hope it happens.

“Juve have a great project in place and they just keep going. Every year they try to get stronger.

“Without doubt, Juve are one of the two-three best teams in Europe.

“They’ve got a great coach on the bench and extraordinary players in every area of the team.”

Lukaku is facing an uncertain future at United, particularly if Solskjaer is given the manager’s job on a full-time basis.

But the Daily Mail claim Solskjaer is trying to save the striker’s Old Trafford career.

It is said he has told Lukaku to face the goal more.

Consequently, the Belgian powerhouse was deployed out wide for United’s FA Cup win over Arsenal at end of January.

And that worked a treat with Lukaku producing a man of the match display.

The Daily Mail say Solskjaer has also told the 25-year-old to run in behind defences more, like team-mate Marcus Rashford.

But whether Lukaku can kick on and save his United career remains to be seen.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp, meanwhile, has claimed Lukaku is the sole player Solskjaer has failed to improve.

“One player that perhaps hasn’t had that little bit of luck is Romelu Lukaku,” Redknapp said.

“It will come with Lukaku but he’s the one that hasn’t really perhaps responded to Ole because he’s not been given a chance.

“I think he was injured when he [Solskjaer] first came. Everyone else has gone flying.

“You can see that it may take time or it might not happen for him at all.

“It might not because the pace that Man United play with at the moment would enable people like [Marcus] Rashford and [Jesse] Lingard.”

“They look better in the team than he does.

“It looks like he’s really lacking confidence.”
