James Martin: ‘James saved my marriage’ Chris Evans reveals how chef helped wife Natasha

Chris Evans, 52, told his Virgin Radio listeners how James Martin, 46, helped the couple after they lost their passports ahead of a safari trip. Spilling all to his listeners, he said: “James saved my marriage, well you saved my honeymoon! “My wife and I had just got married… we were supposed to go on our honeymoon and safari and we lost our passports. “We were devastated. She never loses anything.”

“We were devastated. She never loses anything.”

A friend of Chris’ then told him James was nearby hosting a catering event and suggested he paid a visit.

He said his friend told him: “Go and get Tash a dress and drive to the New Forest, James will cook you a special meal.”

Chris went on to say the couple and James had a few drinks and a “seven-course” meal.

He added: “At half seven he pitches up and is like, ‘Hi guys, I’ve got dinner ready,’ and he even got these menus shaped up like passports and we had this lovely seven-course meal.”

Chris and James previously spoke out about the encounter on James’ morning show back in December, admitting he didn’t want to go to safari anyway.

He said: “Between you and I and now the nation, I didn’t really want to go on safari. So I had to pretend to be gutted.

“I phoned a pal and they said, ‘I think James is down in Chewton Glen in the New Forest’.”

Chris and his wife Natasha married in 2007 and welcomed the birth of their twins Boo and Walt in September last year.

The couple have two other children together Noah and Eli.

Chris recently revealed he and his wife currently sleep in separate rooms following the birth of their twins.

Explaining their living arrangement during a chat about household items, he told his listeners: “I have a separate bathroom to my wife on a separate floor now because she’s with the twins upstairs and I’m downstairs.

“That will all change soon, but right now that’s where we are and so I have my own toothpaste, she has her own toothpaste.”

He added: “Of course she buys all the toothpaste in our house because she does all that.

“I’m not allowed to do anything like that at all.”

Chris Evans’ Breakfast Show airs weekdays at 6.30am on Virgin Radio. James Martin’s Saturday Morning airs each week from 9.30am in ITV.
