Coronation Street spoilers: Carla Connor takes drastic action to protect boat fire starter

Coronation Street finally revealed who was responsible for the boat fire on last night’s show.

It was unsuspecting Roy Cropper (played by David Neilson) who torched the vessel – and it was without motive and a complete accident.

Nevertheless, Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) is beside himself at the loss of his beloved boat and really wants to get to the bottom of what happened.

In the coming weeks, attention will turn to Carla Connor (Alison King) who own the Underworld factory and has CCTV that would reveal the arsonist.

However, when she discovers it’s her best friend Roy who started the fire, she deletes any CCTV files which would incriminate him.

Now, Alison has spilled the beans on why Carla springs into protective mode.

The actress told Digital Spy: “She is absolutely gutted that the boat has gone. She bought it for Peter and it was his dream.

“She became a little bit conflicted because he got the idea it might be Abi and he wanted her to look at the CCTV.

“She wasn’t in any rush really, but Peter wanted answers.”

Alison continued to explain how shocked Carla was to see Roy accidentally cause the fire.

Furthermore, with eyes flicking towards Abi Franklin (Sally Carmen) as the arsonist, Carla sees it as the perfect opportunity to stay quiet.

Alison continued: “The fact that Abi is in the frame is not at all premeditated.

“It is nothing to do with Peter and her – it is simply that if people are suspecting Abi they won’t be looking at Roy.

“It is convenient and it is unlike Carla, but she is desperate to protect Roy.”

But will the truth come out eventually? And how will Roy react when he discovers he was responsible for the almost-life-threatening accident?

Meanwhile, it seems Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) could be in line for a stint in prison.

She was responsible for a drink-driving accident and has thankfully managed to turn her life around, but will still have to go to court over the charge.

When speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the actress teased her character might actually end up in prison as a result.

She explained: “We’ve got the impending court case now, so who knows what’s going to happen there? That prison’s getting a bit full…

“They’ve built up a full set now, so Sally’s been in there, Abi’s been in there, so you know, they might have to make some use for it.

“Jenny might end up there. Who knows?”

Coronation Street continues Monday on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
