Carol Vorderman first husband REVEALED: SHOCK reason Carol's first marriage didn't last

Carol Vorderman rose to fame on game show Countdown, having co-hosted the show for 26 years. Using her arithmetic skill, she became one of the highest-paid women in Britain. Carol left the show in 2008, passing the mantel to Rachel Riley – but the maths genius is still a firm favourite in the hearts of her fans.

After Countdown, Carol, 58, has appeared on Loose Women, is the presenter of the annual Pride of Britain Awards and has participated in both Strictly Come Dancing and I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here.

But what about her personal life? How much do we know about Carol Vorderman’s love life?

Carol has been married twice first to former international rugby league player Christopher Mather in 1985 and later to management consultant Patrick King in 1990.

The former Countdown maths whizz joked why her first marriage may not have lasted on her BBC Radio Wales show.

When speaking of songs that evoke special memories, Carol told guests how one particular track reminded her of her first wedding – and was the reason behind her eventual split.

She explained: “When I got married for the first time, not terribly successfully… this could be the reason why.

“So we got married during the day and had the standard reception thing and then there was an evening do.

“I got changed into a sheer outfit, the kind of thing you would see on Strictly Come Dancing nowadays, and I had been leant it by the girls from Three, Two, One, the programme.

“I got on the stage and I sang this [song] at my wedding and I was then dragged off by my husband and the marriage didn’t last long, so here we go, it’s raining men and you can understand his reasons.”

Carol and Christopher divorced in 1986, after just 12 months of marriage.

She later married Patrick King and had two children, but they too ultimately divorced in 2000.

Carol has also spoken of her regrets in divorcing Patrick but vowed never to tell her reasons why the marriage broke down.

She told Woman Magazine: “I never said why my marriage broke down and we’d agreed never to talk about it publicly.

“The divorce is a regret of mine and my mum thinks that we should have stayed together.

“He’s now remarried so there’s no chance of us getting back together.

“Had my career not taken off like it did, Paddy and I probably wouldn’t have split up.”
