Captain Marvel bathing suit costume: Captain Marvel WON'T wear bathing suit – here's why

Marvel fans are one of the most vocal fanbases out there, tied with the liked of Star Wars fans. With each new movie, a host of new comic related concerns crop up with die-hard fans. So when Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel came onto the scene, the nods to the comic version were well received.

Captain Marvel won’t wear the bathing suit costume…

One glaringly absent feature from Captain Marvel’s early comic book days is her bathing suit costume.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel head Kevin Feige discussed its absence.

Feige said: “If you look at the comics, the further you go back, the less clothes Carol Danvers seems to be wearing.

“Oftentimes it’s a one-piece bathing suit basically, with outrageous comic proportions.

“Brie pointed it out on the wall, and we went, ‘Yeah … just so you know, that’s not what we’re doing.’

“She goes, ‘OK. I didn’t think so, but I’m glad you said that.’ “

In the same interview, Larson explains what drew her to Captain Marvel.

“As a kid, I wanted to be an adventurer,” she told Hollywood Reporter.

“I wanted to be a smart-ass. I wanted to get my hands dirty.

AVENGERS ENDGAME TRAILER: IS CAPTAIN MARVEL IN AVENGERS 4 TRAILER?

“But it wasn’t until being in the theatre seeing Wonder Woman … I was like, ‘Why is this making me cry so much?’

“I realized ’cause I hadn’t had that, and there was a kid in me that was like, ‘Oh, my God. I can do that?'”

For the movie adaptation, Captain Marvel’s costume was inspired by a recent comic-version.

The 2012 comics-costume was designed by Jamie McKelvie for Kelly Sue DeConnick’s series.

Captain Marvel is already projected to earn over $100 million in its opening weekend.

For comparison, $100m+ would put it ahead of Ant-Man and the Wasp’s $75.8 million arrivals last July, and roughly on par with Wonder Woman’s $103.3 million bow in July 2017.

The one film Captain Marvel wouldn’t top with a $100 m debut is Black Panther.

Black Panther made $202 million during its opening weekend last February.

With only three more weeks before Captain Marvel’s debut, that estaime will soon be put to the test.

Captain Marvel is out in cinemas on March 8, 2019.
