Emilia Clarke: Game of Thrones star 'crawls over finish line' with new project

The 32-year-old actress was joined by her cast mates and director Paul Feig, 56, in a quirky social media snap as they celebrated completing filming on Last Christmas. Game of Thrones favourite Emilia Clarke could be seen kneeling on the floor with her arm stretched out desperately towards the camera, while her co-star Henry Golding, 32, laughed behind her. Emma Thompson, 59, pulled a bizarre face beside her and Paul also crouched down as if lurching towards the camera. The director shared the picture with his 60,000 Instagram followers, announcing: “It’s a wrap!

“We have officially finished production on #lastchristmasthemovie!” he told fans, adding: “(It’s not like we crawled over the finish line or anything.)

“Huge love to our entire cast and crew. See you this Christmas!”

Henry, Emilia’s leading man in the upcoming rom com, also uploaded the shot in view of his own 770,000 followers, saying: “Last Christmas is officially WRAPPED!

“Cannot wait for this to hit the cinemas in November.”

Last Christmas will see Emilia play Kate, who works in a year-round Christmas shop.

She then meets Tom (played by Henry) and the pair fall in love against the backdrop of London in the festive season.

The film is Emilia’s first project since finishing filming Game of Thrones last year.

The eighth and final season of the epic fantasy drama will air in April, with fans finally set to discover who will sit on the Iron Throne.

Mother of Dragons actress Emilia previously told the Daily Mail saying goodbye to her character, whom she has played since the show first began in 2011, was “like losing an actual limb”.

“10 years is a long time,” she said. “I was 22 — a child — when I first walked on the Game of Thrones set.

“I grew up with her,” she added.

The star said filming her last scenes “f***ed” her up.

“Knowing that is going to be a lasting flavour in someone’s mouth of what Daenerys is,” she told Vanity Fair.

“All I guarantee is that it is moving and epic beyond words. I can’t even.

“As a human being, emotionally, it’s a massive thing to be walking away from, so just know that every single actor’s come to it and given their everything,” she said.

Game of Thrones season 8 premieres on Sunday, April 14 on HBO and Monday, April 15, on Sky Atlantic in the UK.

Stream Season 8, Episode 1 live on Monday 15th April with NOW TV. Seasons 1-7 boxset available to stream from 15th February, contract free.
