Anthony Davis injury: Update on Pelicans star – will he play NBA All-Star Game?

Davis started New Orleans Pelicans’ game against Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday but was ruled out of the rest of the game at half-time due to an injury to his left shoulder.

Davis recently requested a trade away from the Pelicans with rumours suggesting he will join the Los Angeles Lakers in the offseason.

The 25-year-old has been selected for Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game in Charlotte.

Though he may not be fit to start, with a decision expected to be made on game day.

ESPN reporter Ramona Shelburne tweeted: “MRI on Anthony Davis’ shoulder showed a muscle contusion but “nothing too bad”, according to a source close to Davis.

“He’ll head to Charlotte, get treatment over next few days & see how he feels before deciding whether he can play Sunday.”

Davis left the arena before the 131-122 win over the Thunder was confirmed.

And amid speculation surround Davis’s future, fans were quick to criticise his decision to leave the game.

One tweeted: “Anthony Davis needs to stay home. For good. It’s a shame what he’s doing.”

Another commented: “Not even speculation. Anthony Davis with the biggest fake job of the year.”

A third wrote: “We get it. You don’t want to be here.”

While a fourth fan blasted: “It’s embarrassing Anthony Davis isn’t on the floor right now. He’s most worried about his legacy? It’s been defined. He’s a quitter.”

Davis’s early exit suggested there is still unrest in the Pelicans camp.

And coach Alvin Gentry did nothing to dampen that fire post game.

“I’m happy for the guys that played the game and we won,” Gentry said.

“To tell you the truth, this whole thing has been a dumpster fire.

“It’s been hard for these guys to go through what they’ve been through.

“I’m happy for all these guys.”
