Asan N’Jie: Emmerdale’s Ellis Chapman speaks of his bitter feud ‘I want him to leave’

Emmerdale viewers have witnessed the growing tension between brothers Ellis Chapman and Billy Fletcher, after the latter was released from prison and arrived in the village over Christmas. But it seemingly appears soap star Asan N’Jie is calling for the duo to end their spat for good, according to Digital Spy. Speaking to the publication, the actor admitted he would like for the two brothers to move past their differences and try to get along because they’re family. He said: “I do want them to bury [the hatchet], because at the end of the day, they are family – they’re blood. And they probably need each other for certain situations throughout life as well.

“I think it would always be nice to have that older brother looking out for you – and from Billy’s perspective, a younger brother looking out for him as well. I think it really would be nice for us to rekindle our relationship and become brothers and friends again.”

Asan also added his character’s thought process ahead of their intense scenes, which may lead to murder.

He said: “Maybe I haven’t got it in my head that I want to kill him – but I want to hurt him, really bad. I just want Billy to go at the minute, I just want him to leave.”

ITV soap fans may recall the brothers’ rivalry heated up last month, after Billy viciously attacked Ellis, who later reported the incident to the police which led to his brother’s arrest.

However, this prompted their mother Jessie Dingle (Sandra Marvin) to lie to the police to avoid her son being sent to prison again.

Things appeared to get worse this week after startling scenes reveal Ellis plans to run his brother over after spotting him talking to his love interest Victoria Barton (Isabel Hodgins).

In an appearance on Loose Women, their on-screen mother Jessie opened up about the storyline and how her character’s romantic relationship with Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) has been affected by the drama due to the family fallout.

Speaking about their troubles between her sons, actress Sandra said: “Yeah I mean, it’s difficult, its a blended family.

“Marlon has come and he’s got lovely little April. Even before they got together, before Ellis got introduced, you had hints there were problems between the two sons.

“She feels guilty and takes the fact he was in prison down to her. She has guilt about that. It’s a lot.”

Asan made his debut in the village last year and has enjoyed a successful acting career prior to his appearance on the soap.

He landed a role in Steven Spielberg’s Hollywood blockbuster Ready Player One as Sixer 5, and also appeared as a waiter in Johnny Depp’s movie Murder on the Orient Express in 2017.

His first major break came in 2011 on BBC drama Waterloo Road, which led to him getting roles in Doctors, Mount Pleasant and Casualty.

Asan is no stranger to theatre as he also enjoyed several stints in stage plays.

The star has had roles in productions MacBeth, King Lear and Lady Windermere’s fan.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV.
