Pasha Kovalev: ‘So sad’ Strictly pro’s winning partner reacts to his shock announcement

Pasha Kovalev took to Twitter this morning after it was revealed he would not be returning to BBC programme Strictly Come Dancing. The professional dancer, who is dating Rachel Riley, said “it’s time” to move on after eight years on the show. During his stint on the dance floor, the 39-year-old lifted the Glitterball with just one celebrity contestant: Caroline Flack. The Love Island host has since reacted to the “sad” news that he will not be back, in view of her 1.9 million Instagram followers.

Caroline shared not one but four photos of her and Pasha performing during the 12th season of Strictly.

She captioned the uploads: “SO Sad to hear the news that Pasha is leaving Strictly.

“A total gentleman… You gave me some of the proudest moments of my life… #champs #glitterball.”

Her post quickly received more than 3,600 likes in just 20 minutes, following her triumph back in 2014.

The presenter and Pasha beat off stiff competition from the likes of Frankie Bridge and Simon Webbe in the grand finale.

Gregg Wallace, Tim Wonnacott, Mark Wright, Jake Wood and Judy Murray also appeared in the same series.

Speaking on in view of his own 145,000 Twitter followers, Pasha confirmed the shock news with a shirt statement.

He wrote: “After scoring 93 perfect tens, reaching four finals and lifting one Glitterball, it’s time for me to find a new challenge and so I’ve decided to make last year – my final season Strictly.”

The pro continued: ”I’ve had eight fantastic years, full of wonderful memories, thanks to the incredible partners, professionals and myriad of behind the scenes teams who all work to make Strictly the amazing production that it is.

“The biggest thanks go to all the members of the public who’ve supported me so much over these years – I look forward to seeing you on the Strictly Pro-Tour this spring, and for many future adventures to come!”

The official BBC Strictly account also tweeted: “Sadly after eight incredible series, the brilliant @PashaKovalev has decided to leave #Strictly.

“Pasha, from all of us, thank you for your amazing choreography and routines over the years. You’ll be sorely missed!”
