Dolly-Rose Campbell: Coronation Street star reveals she's bisexual with emotional message

Coronation Street’s Dolly-Rose Campbell has revealed she is bisexual and said Manchester Pride gave her the confidence to accept her sexuality. The 31-year-old, who portrays Gemma Winter in the hit ITV drama series, has supported the festival, celebrating the LGBTQ+ community, for more than 10 years. In fact, the soap star and charity ambassador has become a patron of Manchester Pride. “I have been coming to pride for over a decade now,” the actress divulged.

Praising the work of Manchester Pride, she added: “The work that Manchester Pride does throughout the year to engage with and create opportunities for people in Manchester’s LGBTQ+ community and beyond makes a huge difference to so many people’s lives.”

Dolly has shown her support for the LGBTQ+ people in a new film, titled ‘Mine is The Pride’, which she provides the voiceover for.

Footage in the clip features Manchester Pride celebrations in 2018, as well as images from the new location for the festival at Mayfield Depot.

Dolly-Rose was appointed an official ambassador for the charity in 2018, following years of support for the charity and LGBTQ+ people in Greater Manchester.

Of her new merit, she stated: “It was an honour to do the voiceover for this video. Manchester Pride is one of my favourite times of the year in Manchester.

“It is a time when everyone comes together to show that love and kindness will always triumph over hate and prejudice.”

She continued: “I have been coming to Pride for over a decade now, the love and acceptance shown by the people of Manchester allowed me to accept my bisexuality and be proud of who I am.”

Manchester Pride Festival takes place over four days in Manchester city centre every August Bank Holiday (23 – 26 August).

Outside of her work with Manchester Pride, Dolly-Rose is currently appearing in Coronation Street and horrified fans with her raunchy romp scene this week.

Her character Gemma and Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) were caught in the act at the Rover’s Return pub cellar on Monday’s instalment of the show.

When landlords Johnny Connor (Richard Hawley) and wife Jenny (Sally Ann Matthews) arrived home from their make-or-break trip away they discovered the pair in the basement.

The sheepish-looking pair came out looking slightly bedraggled and the landlords were not happy.

As a result, Gemma was docked £25 for four hours of work, an act which displeased and shocked viewers all at once.

Taking to Twitter, one person argued: “That’s not even minimum wage is it?” while another said: “Blimey, I don’t think I’d want a job in The Rovers, Jenny doesn’t even pay the minimum wage!”

A third commentator added: “£25 for four hours work that’s £6.25 an hour isn’t that below minimum wage. Employment tribunal Corrie.”

Coronation Street continues tonight on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
