Last Sunday evening Malek won the Best Actor BAFTA for his stunning performance as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. And after his speech, he headed backstage for an interview with Edith Bowman. During the chat, the actor revealed that playing the Queen legend was the most difficult job of his life. Malek said: “Nothing about this job was easy.”
He continued: “This was by far the most difficult job of my life.
“The thing about Queen is they have a built-in audience. Their music…it has lasted for generations.
“They’ve been working on music for 50 years. Everyone knows at least one Queen song.
“What was beautiful about this film is, now we get to bring that music to a new generation. And allow the gorgeous legacy that Freddie and Queen have left behind to continue and they’re still going. Those guys won’t stop.”

During his BAFTA-winning speech beforehand, Malek spoke of how he considered Freddie to be the “greatest outsider”.
He said: “This is truly extraordinary. Really. Thank you to BAFTA for this gorgeous gift.
“I still cannot believe I’m included with this group of actors I so respect and admire. I share this with you guys. Every moment.
“I thank my lucky stars. It’s quite difficult entering your world in this role as an outsider.”
He added: “Thank you, so very much to Queen. To Brian May, to Roger Taylor, to the entire Queen family. Wouldn’t be here without you.”
“And to the greatest outsider of them all.
“For being so unwavering and unflinching and uncompromising in every which way.
“Thank you Freddie Mercury again.”
