Sky TV price rise – Why some customers will face higher bills from TODAY

There’s bad news for some Sky customers today with the firm announcing a price rise.

The increase is coming to anyone who enjoys streaming Sky Sports via the NOW TV service.

Until now a Sky Sports Day Pass would have cost you £7.99 and a Week Pass £12.99 but that price is changing.

From today, customers will now be charged £8.99 for the Sky Sports Day Pass and £14.99 if they want Sky Sports for a week.

Sky says that it works hard to keep any increases to a minimum and to keep providing choice and flexibility for customers to choose the Pass that suits them.

The firm also acknowledged that price increases are never welcome but they hope customers can see the range and frequency of sports available on our Day and Week Passes offer great value viewing.

It’s worth noting that all of NOW TV Sky Sports Passes remain contract free giving customers the flexibility to pick and choose which specific events on Sky Sports they wish to watch, and for the duration, they want to watch them for.

As a reminder customers paying for these passes have access to 11 live sports channels, including Sky Sports Premier League, Sky Sports Football, Sky Sports F1, Sky Sports Cricket, Sky Sports Golf and Sky Sports Racing.

The news of this update comes as Sky recently revealed a big update could be coming to its Sky Q service.

Voice search is already a popular addition with Sky boasting that 10 million requests are made each month and it seems things could soon get even better for Q users.

Sky recently teased improvements to this feature with an advert showing a woman searching for her remote – the tagline reads “You can’t lose your voice under the sofa.”

That campaign suggested the firm could attempt to go remote free in the future and now it seems we may have a hint of what’s to come via comments made by Sky CEO Jeremy Darroch and spotted by T3.

Sky was recently acquired by US firm Comcast is a deal worth some £30 billion and during a recent investors call Darroch revealed his passion to feature improved voice search saying: “We really like the Comcast voice platform, and we’re going to be incorporating that for Sky Q, and we’ll consolidate that and use the technology there.”

This update could mean the Q box will soon be able to perform voice tasks such recording shows, checking when programmes are on TV and even ask to watch certain sporting events with the channel instantly changing to reveal the game.

There’s may even be the ability to ask what music or song is playing on the TV with the answer appearing on the screen.

If Sky can add these extras to the Q box it will make voice search infinitely more useful.
