Considering the fact she’s a former model to the high-end designer outfits she regularly steps out, it may come as no surprise that Melania Trump’s style is studied in close detail. Having kept a relatively low profile during the recent government shutdown, the US First Lady has been spotted at a number of public engagements recently. Last week, the 48-year-old wore British designers for two of her outings. The first was during the State of the Union, held by Donald Trump.
The mother-of-one wore a Burberry coat, which is worth £1,490.
The British fashion house was founded in Basingstoke, back in 1856 – and its headquarters is now based in London.
In an unusual style, the First Lady wore just one glove, on her left hand.
Melania’s stylist later shed some light on the thoughts behind her look.
Hervé Pierre told Yahoo!: “As long as I find the right outfit, the designer is almost irrelevant.
“The designer, well, is Burberry, but it could have been anybody else. It has nothing to do with England or Brexit.”
Days later, Melania stepped out in a denim military-style jacket.
The garment, which tied neatly at her waist, is by Victoria Beckham, and usually has a price tag of £425.
However, it seems it has recently been on sale, at Net-A-Porter for £298.
So, could her decision to wear British designers be a subtle way of sending a message?
It’s not the first time she has used her style to send a political statement, fashion PR Dominique St. John explained.
She told Express.co.uk: “It is unclear whether Melania is making a political statement on this occasion.
“On the one hand, we have seen her wearing unsuitable clothing on her solo trips and thus stirring for controversy, for example the ‘I really don’t care’ coat she wore on her trip to Cambodia.
“On the other hand, Burberry and Victoria Beckham are the designers to wear at the moment and it could be a complete coincidence.”
Dominique continued: “However as Melania has made political statements in the past, it could be possible that she is making one now too.
“It is common for women to make political statements through clothes if they are not allowed to express their personal views through their job.”
However, it may be that Melania has revealed something else by choosing to wear Victoria Beckham.
The First Lady has worn military coats by the former Spice Girls star a number of times before, suggesting it could be one of her favourite looks.
