Debbie McGee: ‘She was concerned’ Paul Daniels' son speaks of Strictly star’s cancer news

Debbie McGee’s stepson Martin Daniels said he was worried when Debbie told him they had found cancerous cells during a routine breast screening back in October. He told The Mirror: “She didn’t want to worry me. “She was concerned between the time she found the lump and until the tests came back.” He added: “Before the operation she said she was worried about the scarring and what it would look like.

“Then when she had the dressing off she was happy it was just two stitches and minimal scarring.”

Debbie opened up about her secret battle with cancer last month, admitting she believes the stress of losing her husband Paul back in 2016 may have caused the disease.

Martin’s father Paul, who was married to Debbie for 28 years, died following a brain tumour.

Speaking about the lumps she found on her left breast, she told The Sun: “Stress, I think, caused mine.

“I’ve never been through the stress I’ve been through since I lost Paul.

“Grief hits you in so many ways you’re not expecting. It’s not all about sadness.”

Debbie continued: “I’ve got a friend who lost her husband four years ago. She’s younger than me but she got it (cancer) as well.

“We both discussed it and said stress.”

The former magician’s assistant went on to say she feels like the “luckiest person in the world” to have caught the breast cancer early.

Debbie has now received the all-clear but said she must now rest for six weeks to let her wounds heal from the operation.

Martin added of his stepmother: “Debbie’s strong.

“She had to be after losing Dad and she has used that strength to get through her cancer battle.”

He went on to say he is still close to Debbie, despite the death of his father three years ago.

He added to the publication: “We’re still really close.

“I’ve known Debbie as long as my dad did. We were all in the same show. That was 40 years ago.

“The strange thing is going to visit and my dad not being in the house. You walk in and look towards his chair and he’s not there.”
