The battle of the Android smartphones looks set to intensify later this month with both Samsung and Sony releasing brand new and fully refreshed devices.

Rumours suggest that Samsung will reveal its new Galaxy S10 whilst Sony may give fans their first glimpse of the updated Xperia XZ4.

There’s no official confirmation of what will be included on these flagships but both look set to arrive packing a swathe of updates and all-new designs.

So, with the launches just a few weeks away, Express.co.uk has rounded up everything we know so far about these latest and greatest smartphones and here’s what you need to know.

SAMSUNG GALAXY S10

Launch date – Wednesday, February 20 at 7pm GMT

What will be new?

As with most Samsung launches, there’s been a plethora of leaks and rumours flooding the web about this new phone.

One of the biggest pieces of news is that there could be three versions of the S10 with a standard model sitting alongside a cheaper S10E and larger S10 Plus.

Although nothing has yet been confirmed it seems all of these devices will arrive touting a fully edge-to-edge screen which will spread to every corner of the phone.

With no bezel or notch in sight, it appears that Samsung will punch the front-facing camera through the screen.

Those opting for the S10 Plus could get a dual front-facing camera which could offer the ability to add DSLR-style depth of filed to your selfies.

Spin the devices around and the one big difference might be a triple rear camera on the S10 and S10 Plus which could offer users better zoom and the ability to shoot images with a wide-angle lens.

Other extras that have been widely rumoured include a faster processor, embedded fingerprint scanner under the display and a technology called reverse wireless charging which can refill other devices by simply touching them.

It’s unclear how many of these rumours will come true but a recently leaked image from Evan Blass appears to confirm what many have been suggesting.

This picture clearly shows the new screen, punched camera and triple rear snapper on the back of the phone.

Another image, which claims to be an official press shot, from 91Mobiles also appears to confirm many of the leaks with a triple camera and bigger screen all visible.

How much will the S10 cost?

Latest rumours and reports suggest the standard S10 could arrive with a price of around £800 which, if true, would make it around £60 more than the S9’s price at launch.

If that sounds a little too much for your wallet then the S10E could be a cheaper option with that phone expected to cost around £700.

Finally, there’s the S10 Plus and you might want to sit down before seeing this phone’s price tag.

According to a fresh leak from TuttoAndroif, the S10 Plus with the maximum RAM looks set to land in pockets for an eye-watering price of €1,599 – that’s around £1,390

If true, this will make it the most expensive Samsung Galaxy phone to date.

SONY XPERIA XZ4

Launch date – Monday, February 25 at 7.30am GMT

What will be new?

The Xperia XZ4 looks set to be one of the most exciting phones Sony has launched in years.

This new flagship could get a complete overhaul with a new design offering an almost bezel-free screen and the rear case finally giving users a triple rear camera system.

A new leak from Japanese blog Sumaho Info appears to have added further credence to such claims.

The outlet posted an image of the alleged sensors that will arrive on the handset that also discussed the supposed specifications of each.

Sony’s newest handset was said to come with a 52-megapixel main sensor with an aperture of f/1.6.

Moreover, this was claimed to be accompanied by a 16-megapixel telephoto unit with an aperture of f/2.6.

Finally, it was also stated the device will come with a time-of-flight (TOF) sensor, too.

It is possible the main lens housed inside the XZ4 is an improved version of the firm’s 48-megapixel IMX586 sensor that was announced last year.

Other rumours suggest this new phone will feature Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 855 processor, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and the possible return of the headphone port.

Some of these features can be seen in the new case leaks with a cut out for the headphones and fingerprint sensor clearly visible.

How much will it cost?

We won’t find that out until February 25 but don’t expect the Xperia XZ4 to be cheap.

This is a Sony flagship and all those new features could mean prices head above the £700 mark.

It’s unclear if the Japanese technology firm will launch a cheaper Compact model alongside the XZ4 but there’s not long until we find out full specs, features and price.

SAMSUNG v SONY WHO WILL WIN?

We’ll have to wait and see just how good these Android phones are but both appear to be big upgrades over their predecessors.

However, with Sony looking the most likely to offer a major update on its current range, the XZ4 is definitely one to watch out for.

Express.co.uk will be at both launch events and will bring you all the news live as it happens.
