BAFTAs 2019 best dressed: Celebs in classic black steal the show on the red carpet

The BAFTAs red carpet sees some of the most famous women around the world step out in the best couture available.

And this year was no exception, with many celebrities outdoing themselves with their gorgeous gowns.

Best dressed stars this year included Eleanor Tomlinson, 26, and Claire Foy, 34.

Who else won in the style stakes tonight?

Thandie Newton, 46, wore a bandeau style black and white gown which had a huge puffed skirt.

Just the right side of sexy, Thandie chose to pair her dress with silver drop earrings and poker straight hair.

Cate Blanchett, 49, took a risk in a daring deep-V neck dress – and pulled it off with aplomb.

The stunning gown had a high split up the front and large multi-coloured gemstones covering her cleavage.

Diane Kruger, 42, also flashed the flesh – but well placed material and a modern cut gave the dress a cool, classy edge.

Playing with bare shoulders were Viola Davis, 53, and Eleanor Tomlinson, 26.

They were joined by the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, who also showed off her shoulders tonight in an angelic white gown.

The dress featured a white ruffled detail on the left shoulder, and was gathered at the waist.

She paired the gown with a pair of diamond and pearl drop earrings which are rumoured to have once belonged to Princess Diana.

A pair of glittery silver shoes could be seen peeking out under the hem of her dress.

Sadly, not everyone on the red carpet hit the mark – who were the worst dressed at the BAFTAs tonight?

Maya Jama, 24, left very little to the imagination in a sheer black gown. She chose a sheer black dress by Aadnevik, which she teamed with Jimmy Choo shoes. The gown barely covered her modesty, leaving her close to an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction.

Lily Collins, 29, stood out in a midnight blue choice – which not only had a sheer lace skirt and silk jacket with turned up collar, but also featured a heavily embellished sequin skirt which puffed out stiffly underneath the sheer lace skirt.

Lucy Boynton, 25, star of Bohemian Rhapsody, wore a stunning gown – but her eye makeup let the overall look down.

The gorgeous actress chose a bizarre pink eyeshadow to wear alongside her black white pleated dress, which featured a ruffled trim.
