The mammoth superhero movie was a billion dollar hit last year. And Black Panther could be on its way to become the first superhero movie ever to win Best Picture. While Alfonso Cuaron’s Roma is very much the favourite, insiders are hearing Black Panther is in with a chance. Collider’s Editor tweeted: “Hearing a lot of people now say it’s Black Panther or Green Book for Best Picture. Thoughts?” This was affirmed by other insiders.
One commented: “Been hearing the same thing.”
While another added: “I’ve heard it’s between Roma and Black Panther.”
Considering the odds, Roma is at 1/2 to win Best Picture, while Green Book is close behind on 7/2.
As for Black Panther, it’s currently behind The Favourite with similar odds to Bohemian Rhapsody around 16-1 to 25-1.
While it’s a perfectly decent Marvel entry, last year’s Avengers epic was an even more impressive film in Express.co.uk’s opinion.
Nevertheless, Marvel fans would no doubt be proud if Black Panther defied the odds and won Best Picture.
The 91st Academy Awards take place on February 24 in Hollywood.
