James Martin: Saturday Morning host reveals major show setback 'Nightmare!'

The 46-year-old TV chef, who famously hosted Saturday Kitchen until he quit the BBC programme back in 2015, has been traveling around Britain to give viewers a taste of the delicacies which are available close to home for his brand new series. However, all did not go totally smoothly filming James Martin’s Great British Adventure, he told TV Times. The presenter explained how the programme sees him on the road in a red Mini, saying: “Originally, we hired one to travel around Scotland but it broke down twice. So, I said to the crew, ‘I’m not driving this any more; it’s a nightmare! I’ll buy one!’

“That night, I went on eBay and had one shipped up to Scotland,” he recalled. “So, we drove that for the rest of the journey and not a single thing went wrong with it.

“It’s still sat in my garage. We’ll definitely take it with us we do another show!” he added.

Great British Adventure features James spending a week each in Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales to celebrate the UK’s food and people who produce it.

At one point, he meets a 104-year-old Guernsey cow herd and samples their butter.

He also visits Michelin-starred restaurants, local pubs, butchers and cafes on his journey.

In one episode, James is joined by his mother, Sue, in her first ever on-screen appearance.

“She doesn’t really say anything!” he told the publication.

“My mum has lived in Yorkshire all her life, so when we were filming up there, I said, ‘Right, give me some recommendations.’

“We ended up going to her favourite place, a pub in Wass called The Stapylton Arms, which does the best scampi you’ll ever taste,” he continued.

“Although, now she’s worried that once this goes out, she won’t be able to get a table!”

After James departed Saturday Kitchen, later launching his own Saturday cooking programme, James Martin’s Saturday Morning, chef Matt Tebbutt, 45, took over presenting duties.

Matt recently told Express.co.uk he hadn’t taken any tips from James when he took on the job, saying: “It was terrifying but I didn’t speak to him.

“I think it’s sometimes better off to go naively into these things,” he continued.

“That’s often a good thing if you go into things and you don’t really know what is going to happen, you just handle it as it goes.

“If you know all the facts, I think you might be a little bit daunted.”
