Debbie McGee cancer: ‘Very brave’ Peter Andre’s wife sends support to Strictly star

Debbie McGee, who reached the final of Strictly Come Dancingin 2017, underwent an operation last month to remove two tumours.

The 60-year-old discovered cancerous tissues during a routine breast screening back in October.

Following her candid admission, Peter Andre’s wife praised the star for being open about her cancer battle.

In her latest OK! Magazine column, Emily Andre, 29, spoke about Debbie’s scare, which she believes was triggered from the loss of her late husband Paul Daniels.

“Debbie McGee has revealed she’s been suffering from breast cancer,” Emily wrote.

“She believes the cancer was caused by dealing with the stress of losing her husband Paul Daniels to a brain tumour in 2016.

“Being very stressed over a prolonged period of time can lead to physical health conditions, such as problems with digestion and fertility.”

However, Emily, who is a junior doctor, didn’t seem too convinced Debbie’s cancer would have been brought on from the death of her late husband.

“The evidence that stress can cause cancer is very mixed, partly because scientists aren’t certain how stress affects our health,” she said.

But Emily admitted Debbie being open about her personal battle resulted in herself checking her own breasts.

Emily divulged: “Reading the story about Debbie made me order myself a CoppaFeel! sticker, which reminds you to check your breasts in the shower.

“It’s very brave of Debbie to share her story, and hopefully it encourages others to check themselves, too.”

Meanwhile, Debbie recently spoke about her battle with cancer and revealed she underwent an operation earlier this month to remove two tumours.

Talking about the lumps found in her left breast, Debbie told The Sun: “Stress, I think caused mine. I’ve never been through the stress I’ve been through since I lost Paul.

“Grief hits you in so many ways you’re not expecting. It’s not all about sadness.”

Debbie continued: “I’ve got a friend who lost her husband four years ago. She’s younger than me but she got it (cancer) as well.”

“We both discussed it and said stress.”

The BBC Radio Berkshire host said she has regular mammograms every two years and feels like the “luckiest person in the world” to have caught the breast cancer early.

Debbie has now received the all-clear but said she must now rest for six weeks to let her wounds heal.

Emily Andre’s latest column is in this week’s OK! Magazine, out now.
