Ariana Grande: Is Ghostin about Mac Miller? How did he die? Who is Pete Davidson?

Grande’s latest album is already a worldwide smash. The singer has already written from the heart and this latest release appears to be no different. As soon as fans heard the powerful track Ghostin, they began to ask whether it was about their idol’s heartbreak as she started a new relationship while still missing the man she really loved. That man, Mac Miller, was the talented young artist who tragically died last year.

The star herself responded to one fan who asked where the inspiration for the song came from.

The singer replied: “(It’s about) feeling badly for the person you’re with because you love somebody else. Feeling badly because he can tell he can’t compare…. and how I should be ghosting him.”

Grande dated Miller from August 2016 to May 2019. The same month she began dating Saturday Night Live star Davidson and four months later, Miller died from a drug overdose.

He had just released his fifth album, Swimming. The lead single Self Care featured a video with Miller trapped inside a coffin marked with the words ‘Memento Mori’, which mean ‘Remember death’ but usually represent the Medieval reflection upon mortality and the transience of life.

Shortly after the couple separated, he was charged with driving under the influence and hit and run after allegedly crashing into and knocking down a power pole and fleeing the scene with two passengers.

The promising young artist was widely known for his 2014 mixtape Faces, which includes the track Funeral. Among the 24 tracks are numerous references to his drug use and meditations on life and death.

Miller was found dead in his Los Angeles home on September 7, 2018. On November 5, 2018, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office officially ruled he died from an accidental drug overdose caused by the “mixed drug toxicity” of fentanylalcohol, and cocaine.

Grande split up with Davidson in October 2018.

Davidson has been recently linked with British star Kate Beckinsale, while Grande has publicly stated she will not date anyone in 2019.

The US star angrily denounced the organisers of the Grammys this year after they “lied” about why she was not performing at Sunday’s show.
