Life after death: Man was ‘engulfed in a peace and love’ after drowning

The person who gives his name as simply Jon was out swimming with his friends in a lake when his girlfriend began struggling in the water. While trying to save his partner, the man stayed under water for too long, and ultimately inhaled some of the water when he could no longer hold his breath. After he breathed in the water, Jon believes he slipped into the ‘other side’.

Writing for the website NDERF, Jon said he saw a “light clearly of mystical or other-worldly origin” and left his body.

He continued: “The next thing I know it was like a pop and I was out of my body. I was slowly rising up in the air. I looked down and saw the back of my body.

“I remember being engulfed in a peace and love. I can only describe this feeling by comparison. Imagine the best day you ever had and multiple that by a billion and that doesn’t even come close to the feeling I felt.

“I had my consciousness with me and all the knowledge that I had acquired in my life. I don’t know how I knew this, but I knew.

“I didn’t feel any pain. I just knew that this is home and we’re just on a journey to enlighten our souls so we can reach the next levels of evolution of our souls.”

Thankfully, the paramedics arrived in time and Jon says “there was a pop”, and he was back in his body.

Some researchers state these visions are normal phenomenon and not necessarily a sign of an afterlife.

Dr Sam Parnia, director of critical care and resuscitation research at NYU Langone School of Medicine in New York City, told a recent Oz Talk: “People describe a sensation of a bright, warm, welcoming light that draws people towards it.

“They describe a sensation of experiencing their deceased relatives, almost as if they have come to welcome them. They often say that they didn’t want to come back in many cases, it is so comfortable and it is like a magnet that draws them that they don’t want to come back.

“A lot of people describe a sensation of separating from themselves and watching doctors and nurses working on them.”

Dr Parnia says there are scientific explanations for the reaction, and says seeing people is not evidence of the afterlife, but more likely the brain just scanning itself as a survival technique.
