Coronation Street spoilers: David Platt devastated as sinister gang plot leads to TRAGEDY?

David (played by Jack P Shepherd) was left heartbroken when his wife Kylie Platt (Paula Lane) was killed by Shona’s (Julia Goulding) son Clayton Hibbs (Callum Harrison) in heartbreaking scenes on Coronation Street in 2016.

The Weatherfield hairdresser was forced to confront his tragic past during last night’s instalment of the ITV soap when Shona revealed she had visited her son in prison to tell him his father Dane Hibbs (Simon Naylor) had died of a drug overdose.

However, David was dealt another blow when his partner revealed she was going to help her killer son get transferred to an open prison as he was bullied by his inmates.

Shona will soon learn there is more to Clayton’s plan than she first thought, as his scheme will see her having to smuggle drugs.

After being beaten up to the point of hospitalisation when Shona first refuses to go through with the drug plan, Clayton insists his mother smuggle the illegal substances to ensure he isn’t killed.

Reluctant to carry out the criminal activity, Shona is spooked when she receives a DVD of her and David sleeping in bed, a threat from the gang who are pushing Clayton to smuggle the drugs.

Clayton is adamant the gang are behind the threats, but the warnings keep on coming as Shona is later attacked in David and Nick Tilsley’s (Ben Price) barber shop when she refuses to be a part of the plan.

Although Nick steps in, Shona is dealt more sinister threats and eventually ends up taking a parcel of drugs.

However, will Shona go through with the deal to protect her son, or will she get rid of the drugs another way?

Upcoming scenes will see Shona and Clayton at the funeral of Dane, with the prisoner taking his mother hostage. Has Clayton been on the side of the gang all along?

As the dramatic scenes unfold, Shona is seen lying in a pool of blood as David cradles her, mirroring the scenes with Kylie dying in the street almost three years ago.

Will Clayton kill his mother to enact revenge on her for not carrying out the drug deal?

If David loses another partner to Clayton, could the hairdresser end up taking revenge of the killer by giving him a taste of his own medicine.

Elsewhere on the cobbles, Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) and her husband Johnny Connor (Richard Hawley) evaded jail time after they found themselves on the wrong side of the law over Liz McDonald’s (Beverly Callard) hit and run on Christmas Day.

The couple were given a strike of luck after Liz failed to attend the court hearing, with the judge throwing out the case as the claimant did not show.

It was revealed Liz had decided to get away from Weatherfield after speaking with Rita Tanner (Barbara Knox) and Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell).

With the help of Gemma and her brother Paul Foreman (Peter Ash), Liz sparked panic over her whereabouts when no one was able to locate her, leading Imran Habeeb (Charlie De Melo) to accuse Gemma of kidnapping the barmaid.

However, Liz rang her son Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) to tell him: “I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t let Johnny and Jenny get sent down.”

Now a free woman, will Jenny drop her vendetta against Liz and move on with her life with Johnny or on her return, will Liz find herself the victim of another one of Jenny’s jealous schemes?

Faced with worry over Jenny, Rita was also dealt another blow when it was revealed Brain Packham (Peter Gunn) and his partner Cathy Matthews (Melanie Hill) were the new owners of the Kabin.

Coronation Street continues Friday at 7.30pm on ITV
