Chris Evans: Virgin Radio host speaks out on work opportunity 'Applying for another job'

Chris Evans was recently joined by Vassos Alexander on the Virgin Radio Breakfast Show and discussed an upcoming dart competition, which will air on Sky Sports. The 52-year-old former Radio 2 presenter quizzed Vassos on why he was fronting some of the dart tournaments on the network but not the “best one”. Expressing his love for darts, sports reporter Vassos gushed: “You know how much I love dance and nobody does it better than Sky. “It’s such fun, so it’s the start of the premier league on Thursday on Sky Sports, and it’s just, honestly, it’s perfect.”

Interjecting, the father-of-five asked: “Do you work there? Don’t you commentate on the darts?”

“There’s quite a few different darts tournaments and I commentate on two of them,” the sports presenter stated.

To which, Chris declared: “Well, shouldn’t you commentate on this one if this is the best one and Sky do it better than anyone else?”

Admitting he would be delighted to work on the impending darts contest, he quipped: “I’d quite like to, yes.”

Responding, Chris added: “So this is Vassos on-air applying for the job with our pals at Sky.”

The radio host recently moved from BBC Radio 2 to Virgin Radio, bringing much of his former team with him, including Vassos.

Also, the pair discussed the topic of ketchup, during which, Chris seemingly appeared to take a cheeky swipe at his long-standing co-star on Tuesday’s show.

“I blame Vassos for being so interesting these days. We were never this interesting at the BBC,” he remarked.

After, the radio DJ gave listeners an insight into tomato sauce and when it’s not allowed to go on sale in the supermarket.

Educating his companion, Chris explained: “The speed of ketchup, in the iconic glass bottle is 0.28 miles per hour.

“If the viscosity of the ketchup is greater than the speed, then the ketchup is rejected for sale. Told you.”

To which his co-star simply replied: “Wow.”

Vassos has worked with Chris for the past seven years as they formerly worked together on BBC Radio 2.

The radio presenter stepped down from his role after eight years in the job last year.

Now, the pair have taken their funny quips to Virgin Radio and Strictly: It Takes Two presenter Zoe Ball, 48, has taken over as Radio 2 host.

Chris Evans’ Breakfast Show airs weekdays at 6.30am on Virgin Radio.
