Katie Price news: 'Harvey is a danger to himself' Star considers residential care for son

The 40-year-old TV personality appeared on Victoria Derbyshire to discuss her 16-year-old son, who is severely autistic, blind and suffers from Prader-Willi syndrome. “He doesn’t realise and he’s a danger to himself,” Katie Price said, explaining how she was starting to consider getting professional help with caring for Harvey. “He knows he kicks off in the morning, the driver won’t take him and he’s missing out on his education. He just wants to be with me all the time,” she added.

The former glamour model and mother-of-five continued: “It’s so hard. I’ve never had respite. I don’t have a carer, I do it all myself, so I’m really having to think about it [putting Harvey in residential care].

“But I hate it because he is my life. I’ve got to do what’s best for him and it won’t be forever.

“When he’s smashing things and the kids are a bit scared of him because he’s big — I’ve got to do it for him,” she continued.

“If there is anyone out there who could give me advice and let me know how they cope when they go residential, message me on Twitter,” she said.

Katie was on the BBC programme to discuss Harvey’s Law, which she has launched after he was targeted with horrific abuse from social media trolls.

Over 200,000 people signed a petition to make online trolling a criminal offence and her campaign has also received backing from MPs.

“This is about protecting people around you,” she said. “So many people have committed suicide because of online, and online is the way forward now, so there should be some protection there.”

Katie is also mother to Junior, 13, Princess, 11, Jett, five, and Bunny, four.

She emphasised that her campaign to criminalise online trolling wasn’t limited to abuse regarding disability, but also included comments about people’s size, skin colour and personality.

Katie also showed host Victoria, 50, the bag of medication which Harvey has to take every day, saying some drugs he has to take six times a day, in addition to an injection every night.

Prader-Willi syndrome is a genetic condition which can affect the nervous system and often results in a constant feeling of hunger.

As a result, it can lead to obesity.

Harvey, who’s father is Dwight Yorke, 47, is Katie’s eldest child.

During her interview with Victoria, the star also said Harvey’s behaviour was becoming difficult to cope with at home, revealing he had smashed eight iPads last year.

He has also broken windows and TV sets.

Speaking about Harvey’s Law, Katie said: “One thing is for sure, whether you like me or hate me, you can’t knock me for this.

“This is one of the best things I’ve done and Harvey is one of the best things that’s every happened to me.”

Victoria Derbyshire airs weekdays at 10am on BBC Two.
