Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder agreement DELAYED as rematch talks stall

The two brutes fought to a split decision draw back in December and calls for the rematch have come ever since.

The World Boxing Council mandated the rematch just weeks after the fight took place.

Both Tyson Fury’s and Deontay Wilder’s camps have been in negotiations over the last few weeks trying to get a deal done that would see a second fight likely take place in April or May.

Wilder has gone on record to say that the rematch will occur in either Las Vegas or New York.

The purse bid was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon in Mexico City but both parties have requested for a delay because a deal hasn’t yet been reached.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman told ESPN that the bid would be delayed.

“We have extended for one week the free negotiations, per their request,” he said.

A purse bid is sanctioned in the event that the two side’s promoters are not able to strike a deal for the fight to take place.

Promotional rights for the fight are essentially put up for sale with the highest bidder gaining control of the event.

The purses, date, venue and any other miscellaneous requests would be handled by whoever wins the bid.

Wilder’s co-manager Shelly Finkel, and Fury’s promoter Frank Warren are in the midst of striking a deal but need a little more time to get it done.

Finkel spoke about the delay, but said everything is going smoothly.

“We’re in strong negotiations and hopefully we will get things done,” he said.

“I don’t think we are going to need a purse bid.”

Wilder and Fury have also both been touted to fight Anthony Joshua but neither fight is likely to happen until the end of the year or early next year.

Joshua, instead, is reportedly going to fight Jarrell Miller in New York in June, but this is yet to be announced.
