The 25-year-old quarterback is expecting to have more influence on play calling, following the appointment of Kellen Moore as the Cowboys new offensive coordinator.
Prescott, who has been in the NFL for three seasons, seemed to struggle at times with the system that was in place in this past season.
Dallas decided in January to part ways with Scott Linehan, who had been the offensive coordinator for the Cowboys since 2014.
Moore is expected to allow Prescott to have more creativity.
“It’s just something that when you do it you’ve got to be really convicted about what you’re doing and know exactly,” Prescott said.
“You’re going in there to say, ‘Coach, I want this because it’s great against this look and that look.’
”I’m not going to say that’s something that’s new. That’s something I’ve been doing.
”I’m just excited about being able to do it more.”
Linehan had been under pressure for a large part of the 2018 season.
The Cowboys had a sluggish start to their campaign and by Week 9 were 3-5.
Dallas finished the season ranked 22nd in yards (343.8) and points (21.2) per game.
Moore, who had been promoted from quarterback coach, is expected to bring more flair to Dallas’ offensive and Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett agrees a change was needed.
“We anticipate that he will call plays,” Garrett said about Moore.
“We want to look at different ways of doing things.”
And Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is adamant about overseeing a change, after he warned anyone from thinking about stifling this new wave of creativity.
“I think it’s a great opportunity for our team and our players,” Jones said.
“[Moore] has a great staff on the offensive side with him and they all have some great ideas. We have Jason sitting there as a safety net.
“I think it’s an ideal time to stretch out.
“I said to everybody, ‘I want those new ideas. I want them thought through far. And if they are not being implemented call me.’
“But let’s get in there and do the kinds of things to get the most out of a very talented roster.
“Kellen has the skill, and the right attitude, and style to make this work.”
