Sony Xperia XZ4 could overtake the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Google Pixel 3 with this feature

Sony Xperia XZ4 is expected to debut at the firm’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) press conference taking place on Monday, February 25, at 7.30am GMT.

The handset has been rumoured to improve upon the solid foundation laid by the Xperia XZ3 in a number of ways.

First and foremost, it appears the handset is set to radically reduce bezels in favour of an all-screen design.

Moreover, the product has been claimed to arrive with a 21:9 aspect ratio, meaning its panel could be much taller than its competitors.

Leaked renders of the handset have also suggested the XZ4 could come with a triple-camera system on its rear.

If true, such functionality could present Android fans with a sizeable photography upgrade, especially when compared to the XZ3’s single 19-megapixel rear lens.

A new leak from Japanese blog Sumaho Info appears to have added further credence to such claims.

The outlet posted an image of the alleged sensors that will arrive on the handset that also discussed the supposed specifications of each.

Sony’s newest handset was said to come with a 52-megapixel main sensor with an aperture of f/1.6.

Moreover, this was claimed to be accompanied by a 16-megapixel telephoto unit with an aperture of f/2.6.

Finally, it was also stated the device will come with a time-of-flight (TOF) sensor, too.

It is possible the main lens housed inside the XZ4 is an improved version of the firm’s 48-megapixel IMX586 sensor that was announced last year.

The IMX586 recently debuted on the Honor View 20.

While the megapixel count of a camera does not necessarily mean the quality of photos will be better, it is possible the XZ4 may be capable of taking laudably detailed shots that rival those from the Google Pixel 3 and Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Pixel 3 certainly flaunt two of the best cameras on a smartphone at the moment.

However, both take incredibly different approaches to photography when it comes to hardware and software.

The Mate 20 Pro comes with a 40-megapixel main sensor while the Pixel 3 has a 12.2-megapixel lens.

However, the Pixel 3 takes advantage of Google’s clever machine learning technologies that, in our testing, consistently produced better shots than that offered by the Mate 20 Pro.

Google’s flagship proves great smartphone snaps are as much about software trickery as they are about actual hardware.

That means while the Xperia XZ4 may flaunt a whopping amount of megapixels, Sony will surely need to ensure its camera software is also refined in order for the phone to produce great shots.

It is worth noting the new leak from Sumaho Info has not been confirmed by the Japanese tech giant.

However, it is expected the firm will discuss everything about the XZ4 at its MWC showcase.

Express.co.uk will be attending the exhibition and covering proceedings live.
