Rob Gronkowski: Why does New England Patriots star wear an arm brace?

As reported by MetaReviews the 29-year-old tight-end has been a stalwart in Foxborough since being drafted in 2010.

Gronkowski, who graduated from the University of Arizona, is already a two-time Super Bowl winner.

However, since the 2013 season he has donned a hefty brace on his left arm.

Gronkowski first broke his left forearm against the Indianapolis Colts in November 2012 and had a metal plate inserted.

He returned to action just a few weeks later but re-injured the same arm against the Houston Texans in a play-off clash.

Once the campaign had finished, Gronkowski was then diagnosed with a serious infection in his forearm that could have weakened the bone further.

The Patriots ace was subsequently advised to wear the brace for the rest of his career to help prevent another major injury.

Speaking ahead of the Super Bowl tonight, tight ends coach Nick Caley said: “His preparation is incredible.

“In practice, he takes no reps off.

“He cares deeply about his fundamentals and technique.

“He works hard at it. And it’s important to him.

“I can’t say enough about how much pride he takes in his blocking.”

Gronkowski has been asked if he’ll retire after the showpiece in Atlanta.

The influential star was coy about his future though.

“I’m thinking about how to get myself to go full go (against the Rams),” he explained.

Tom Brady and Gronkowski have a fearsome partnership.

Gronkowski famously refused to move to NFL rivals the Detroit Lions.

He said he’d only turn out for the Patriots – and only if Tom Brady remained as quarterback.

Brady says he still has faith in his old pal despite Gronkowski’s lengthy list of injury woes.

“I have a tremendous amount of confidence in Gronk in everything that he does,” Brady said.

“I think so highly of him as a player, a person.

“He brings a lot to our team.

“When he’s out there, he’s a threat. I’m certainly looking for him.

“The more we get him the ball, the better our offense is.

“He’s had so many big catches for us. He just shows up at the biggest moments.”
