The Greatest Dancer: 'Was that Simon?' Simon Cowell appearance sends fans into a frenzy

Tonight’s The Greatest Dancer saw the final nine acts take to the stage in front of a live studio audience for the first time.

However, after Matthew’s act Prospect Fraternity had taken to the stage, fans were quick to notice X Factor judge Simon Cowell in the audience.

The Greatest Dancer was launched by Simon but it seems not many viewers knew this as many rushed to comment on his appearance on Twitter.

“Is that simon cowell in the audience?! #GreatestDancer,” one viewer wrote.

Another added: “Simon Cowell in the audience? A BBC one show #GreatestDancer.”

A third continued: “I’ve just spotted @SimonCowell in the audience #GreatestDancer #TGD.”

“Was that Simon?! #GreatestDancer,” someone else asked.

A fifth shared: “Oh alright Simon Cowell? #GreatestDance.”

Later in the show following Dane Bates Collective’s routine, host Alesha Dixon pointed out the media mogul.

Simon, 59, then stood up and waved to the girls who had just performed an incredibly emotional routine.

Tonight’s first live show began with a spectacular opening which included Cheryl, Oti and Matthew.

However, fans thought Love Made Me Do It singer Cheryl slipped up at the start of the routine.

She could be seen slipping slightly but quickly recovered.

Unfortunately, viewers weren’t too impressed and took to Twitter to slam the opening routine.

One viewer shared: “Shocking timing issues #thegreatestdancer.”

Another asked: “Did Cheryl mess that up?? #thegreatestdancer.”

“@CherylOfficial is the judge / captain of a dance competition and she forget the opening dance… #thegreatestdancer,” a third wrote.

However there were many viewers who enjoyed the opening, with one writing: “Well that’s the best intro into a show I’ve ever seen! #thegreatestdancer.”

Another concluded: “Loved the intro to tonight’s #TheGreatestDancer! Awesome to see the judges up dancing too!”

The Greatest Dancer continues Saturday on BBC One at 7.30pm.
