Six Nations 2019: Sir Clive Woodward makes bold Eddie Jones claim after Ireland win

That’s according to World Cup winning manager Sir Clive Woodward.

England brilliant as they ran rampant at the Aviva Stadium, thwarting Ireland in all aspects of the game to run out as comfortable winners.

Ireland were favourites to come out on top, but England were quick to start the game positively, with a try from Jonny May.

The hosts were quickly back on top but Elliot Daly capitalised on a mistake to put the visitors back in front before halftime.

And Woodward, who guided England to World Cup victory in 2003, believes it’s the best he’s seen them play under Jones.

“Eddie’s been there three years, it’s absolutely massive, I can’t recall England playing better,” he said.

“When I saw the team in midweek, I thought ‘wow, this team will come and play’.

“They really turned up, they played so quickly, defensively they were absolutely immense.

“They played the no. 2 ranked team in the world, they’ve not only won this game, they’ve obliterated them.”

Woodward also spoke of the importance of the victory being in the same year as the World Cup, as well as the performance of Owen Farrell.

“Leadership has been a problem for England for so long, but [Owen] Farrell was magnificent today,” he said.

“He ran the team, tactically he played the key positions which is a massive statement.

“In World Cup year, you cannot underestimate what that will do for the team, it was just a bad day at the office for Ireland.

“They were really disappointing, I can’t recall seeing England ever playing better.”

England play France at Twickenham in their next Six Nations match-up.
