NBA trade news: Anthony Davis SHOCK Lakers development, Kyrie Irving twist and more

Anthony Davis shock Lakers development

The Los Angeles Lakers may end up being frustrated in their pursuit of Anthony Davis as they “don’t have the assets”.

That’s according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, who claims the New Orleans Pelicans won’t accept any offer the Lakers can give them.

The Lakers have reportedly already made an approach to New Orleans ahead of the February 7 trade deadline.

But Windhorst doesn’t see how the Pelicans could possibly accept any offer from the Lakers.

“For Davis, a top-five arguable player who is going to be desired in many different markets, the Lakers just don’t have the assets,” Windhorst said on The Sedano Show.

“It’s just not enough for the Pelicans. They just don’t like what the Lakers have to offer. And that is not lost on Davis.

“That is why it’s pretty clear his camp is waging a battle to make Boston not even bid so the Lakers have a chance.

“Because it’s as clear as day that Boston can outbid the Lakers. They just don’t have the assets.”

Kyrie Irving frustration

Kyrie Irving is causing more and more tension in the Boston Celtics camp with his comments regarding his future with the franchise.

That’s according to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps, who reports Boston are frustrated with Irving.

It couldn’t have been a better start to the season for Boston with Irving publicly declaring his desire to re-sign as a free agent in the summer of 2019.

Fast forward just a few months and things are looking a lot more bleak with Irving seemed to suggest he may change his mind.

When asked if he still remains committed to re-signing with the Celtics, Irving said: “Ask me July 1”.

And Bontemps reports the Celtics have been “disappointed” with how this season has played out, especially with regard to Irving.

Irving sparked rumours that he may want to make amends with LeBron James at the Los Angeles Lakers when he reached out to the three-time NBA champion to issue an apology over how he left the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The New York Knicks also remain linked and have now created enough cap space to offer Irving and another superstar a max contract.

Kevin Durant update

The New York Knicks are “pretty sure” they’re getting Kevin Durant in free agency this summer, according to Bleacher Report’s Howard Beck.

The Knicks shocked the NBA by trading away Kristaps Porzingis to the Dallas Mavericks, freeing up cap space for two max salary slots in the summer.

And one NBA executive believes New York only did that because they have had some form of promise that they’re getting Durant at the end of the season.

“It means they’re pretty sure they’re getting [Kevin Durant],” they told Bleacher Report.
