Fans of Sex Education got some good news today with Netflix announcing they had renewed the popular series for a second run. Viewers across the world have fallen in love with the cast of memorable characters and had been hoping for this announcement. Here’s everything you need to know about Sex Education season two.
When will Sex Education season 2 be released on Netflix?
Sex Education season two is on the way but we have yet to find out when it will be back on screens.
Season one first arrived on the streaming platform on January 11 this year.
So it will more than likely be another year before season two is completed.
A total of eight new episodes have been ordered for the second run due to fan demand.
Production and filming are due to start this spring in the UK.
Netflix revealed that an estimated over 40 million households watched the title within the first four weeks.

Who is in the cast of Sex Education season 2?
Fans will be pleased to hear that all of the core cast members have been confirmed to return to season two.
This announced so far are Gillian Anderson, Asa Butterfield, Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa, Aimee-Lou Wood, Connor Swindells, Kedar Williams-Stirling, Tanya Reynolds and Patricia Allison.
Anderson stars as sex therapist Jean Milburn and her onscreen son is the protagonist played by Asa Butterfield.
Mackey is smart but troubled Maeve Wiley and Ncuti Gatwa is due to return as the lovable Eric Effiong.
Wood will be back as Aimee Gibbs, another of Moordale Secondary School’s popular girls who also has an unlikely friendship with Maeve and Swindells’ Adam Groff will also be making a return.
Champion swimmer Jackson Marchetti will be back played by Williams-Stirling as will Reynolds as sex-obsessed Lily Iglehart and Allison as Otis’ new love interest, Ola.
Some other faces fans will be hoping to see include Alistair Petrie as Mr Groff, Mimi Keene as Ruby, Mikael Persbrandt as Jakob Nyman and James Purefoy as Remi Milburn.

What is the plot of Sex Education season 2?

A number of new storylines for season two were teased at the end of season one.
Namely a possible love triangle between Otis, Ola and Maeve.
There’s also the question of whether or not Maeve will be expelled from Moordale High School.
How Jackson will cope with his overbearing parents will be an issue as will Adam’s new life in military school just as he started to come to grips with his sexuality.
And of course, fans will be dying to see more of Eric and follow his journey of self-acceptance despite prejudice from others.
A potential romance between Jean and Jakob is also (hopefully) on the cards.
HOW MANY EPISODES ARE IN SEX EDUCATION?
According to Netflix: “The first season garnered critical and popular acclaim and has opened up poignant cultural conversations around sexuality, relationships and identity.
“The series has been lauded for delivering a coming-of-age story with a fresh, feminist heart, and for presenting intersectional and multidimensional characters that audiences have fallen in love with.”
Laurie Nunn will return as creator and executive producer with Jamie Campbell set to executive produce alongside her.
About the recommission, series creator Nunn said: “The reception to series one has been so exciting.
“Seeing how people across the world have connected to characters that began as ideas in my head is incredible.
“I’m hugely grateful to every person that has taken the time to watch the series, and I can’t wait to continue this amazing journey.”

There is no trailer yet, but Netflix released a cute promo to coincide with the season two announcement.
All the characters talk about Otis in an instantly recognisable Mean Girls (and more recently, Ariana Grande) tribute.
