Mexico STRUCK by major 6.6 magnitude earthquake – Mexico City high-rise buildings SHAKE

The natural phenomenon hit near the coast of Chiapas, close to the border with Guatemala. The quake was also felt in Mexico city where high-rise buildings shook. The epicenter of the quake hit at a depth of 42 miles (68 km) near the Pacific coast and Mexico’s border with Guatemala, according to the USGS.

The earthquake struck at 16.14 UTC time.

Residents said they felt tremors in nearby Guatemela and as far as El Savador.

One local said he felt “1 min of gentle shakes” while another said experienced “strong” shakes in Antigua Guatemala.

A resident said on Twitter: “We felt the house shake for 20-25 seconds. Just another adventure. — at Municipalidad de Santa Lucia Milpas Altas.”

An official with emergency services in Chiapas said that he felt the quake but that he did not see any immediate damage.

Meanwhile, one resident said: “There was a very long and strong tremor in San Salvador.”

A Reuters witness said the quake was felt in San Salvador.

Some people have evacuated offices along a central boulevard in Mexico City.

There were no reports of major damage, and no tsunami warning has been announced.
